What was the first thing you thought when you saw your published book the first time?
Although seeing the product page for a new ebook pop up on a sales site is exciting, I get a real sense of satisfaction when I hold the proof copy of the print book for the first time. Nothing says “accomplishment” like seeing that cover attached to the words, being able to riffle through the pages, feeling the weight in my hands.
When did you first decide to call yourself a writer? What prompted the decision?
In terms of describing myself professionally as a writer, I didn’t feel comfortable doing that until I had a steady, albeit tiny, income every month from my work.
What is your best advice for someone just starting their first manuscript? Halfway through? Just finished?
If you are starting or halfway through, my advice is to keep going until you’ve finished your first draft. If you just finished, buckle up. Believe it or not, the easy part is now over. You have dug a pile of clay out of the earth. Now you get to form it into Michelangelo’s David.
About the Author
J. Hughey knows what a girl wants. Independence. One or two no-matter-what-happens friends. A smokin’ hot romance. A basic understanding of geological concepts. Huh? Okay, maybe not every girl is into geology, but J. Hughey is, and in the Yellowblown™ series she combines her passion for a timeless love story with her interest in geeky stuff.
