The author’s responsibility to the reader (in no particular order):

  • Interesting plot and conflict
  • Characters with depth and complexity
  • Dependable—not necessarily reliable—point(s) of view
  • Descriptive setting
  • Accurate, well-integrated research
  • Themes relevant to the story
  • Consistent voice, tone, and style
  • Clear, error-free text

The reader’s responsibility to an author (in no particular order):

  • None
